THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL COURSE FOR EXEMPLARY CANINE HIKERS

The course will take place at the El Cares campsite, (see dossier) located in the Valdeón valley in the southern part of the Picos de Europa, without a doubt a unique and beautiful place surrounded by nature, where we will enjoy its landscapes and hiking trails. Accommodation and meals are available at the campsite upon reservation. When will it take place? 11, 12 and 13 June 2021. The duration of the course will be three days and two nights, time that we will take advantage of to learn and to walk through its beautiful places in our free time. This could be a great opportunity to combine fun and educational experience. There is a minimum of 10 people and a maximum of 15. The price is 60€ for an adult and a dog, and the family nearby can attend some of the recreational blocks.

INFORMATION OF INTEREST

All of us who have decided to adopt a dog as a companion animal, have at some point been confronted with unwanted behaviour, which sometimes becomes routine and therefore a real headache.

Excessive pulling when we go for a walk, excessive and annoying barking or breaking objects and causing unexpected damage… these are some of the behaviours that sometimes make us uncomfortable when we go on holiday with our dog.

We live in a society in which coexistence and rules of conduct for our pets are becoming increasingly necessary for everyone’s wellbeing. If we invest a little time, establish certain routines and take care of our pet’s needs, the quality of life increases and coexistence becomes more fluid.

With this course we will be more aware of our pet’s needs, we will better understand their behaviour and we will know how to react in order to regulate their behaviour appropriately.

Programme:

Friday 11 June (from 18:00 to 20:00): Getting to know my pet. We will break the ice with an introduction game, in which each of the participants will introduce their pet and say one thing they love, one thing they can’t stand and one thing that scares them. Marina Martín will give a talk on the formation of the canine character, emotions and how they are expressed.

Saturday 12th June (from 10:30 to 12:30): Dog training, basic principles: Why educate my dog, what behaviours we can deal with, what is the best time to start with the education or the attitude that the amateur educator should have, are some of the topics that we will deal with in this section. We will carry out an educational practice, with some rehearsals with rewards.

(from 16:00 to 18:00): On the road with my dog. Marina Martín will talk to us about the basic aspects to have the best experience when we go hiking, and to turn our pet into an “exemplary canine hiker”.

Sunday 13th June (from 10:30 to 12:30): Educational practice, in which we will reinforce the educational principles. We will finish with an “exemplary canine exhibition” by Marina Martín.

For those who are looking for more passive activities, one of many options is horse riding, which undoubtedly puts you in touch with wildlife as it allows the rider to spiritually connect with his or her horse and experience the elegance of riding through the countryside. Live the experience of getting to know Picos de Europa on horseback. You will feel at liberty and in full connection with nature. The horses are taught to ride from the smallest. The routes run through beeches from which the majestic Picos de Europa glimpse at all times. We can also design customized routes. Canyoning

Canyoning in Picos de Europa In the Picos de Europa area, we can offer you canyoning of different levels of difficulty, from ‘petit’ for children, to a higher level, depending on the age and experience that the client has in these aquatic activities. During the activity you will be accompanied by professional guides with experience in high level canyoning who will make sure that the group is comfortable, safe and enjoying the activity. Vía Ferrata

Via Ferrata Itinerary Located in the Picos de Europa National Park, the Valdeón via ferrata is a simple route, ideal for those who want to start out on this type of itinerary that combines vertical and horizontal sections in a sublime way.
