La Agencia de Protección Civil recuerda algunas recomendaciones que conviene seguir en caso de ser víctima de un alud de nieve:
- Al salir ponga el ARVA (Aparato de Búsqueda de Víctimas de Aludes) en emisión aunque parezca que no haya peligro. Compruebe, antes de salir, que los ARVA funcionen. Deberá llevar una pala y la sonda.
- Consultar la predicción meteorológica y el boletín de peligro de aludes. No inicie la salida si el índice de peligro es superior a 3 en la escala europea.
Tras desencadenarse un alud:
Mantenga la calma e intente huir por el lateral más próximo en dirección diagonal y descendente.
Cierre la boca para que no se llene de nieve.
Agárrese a cualquier roca o árbol para no ser arrastrado.
Libérese de esquís, planchas o raquetas para evitar quedarse atrapado/a.
Si no encuentra agarradero, luche para permanecer a flote en el alud mediante movimientos natatorios contra la oleada y al mismo tiempo protegerse la cabeza de las rocas.
Si permanece sepultado, es importantísimo adoptar forma de bola y tratar de salir antes de que el alud se modere, antes que se detenga en el valle, porque se endurecerá en pocos minutos.
Para respirar aire, desplace la nieve con los brazos y con las rodillas e intente hacer una cámara respiratoria.
Antes de moverse se debe saber en que posición se encuentra: haga gotear la saliva de los labios: Si va hacia la nariz es que se está boca abajo.
Si no puede salir, no haga esfuerzos inútiles, muévase lo menos posible, respire lentamente y atienda la ayuda.
