N 10. LINEAR ROUTE TO FUENTE DE LA FARFADA

Very easy linear hiking route, suitable for families and children. It starts at the Tombo viewpoint in Cordiñanes de Valdeón, ascending towards the western massif “El Cornión” and offering spectacular panoramic views of the mountains from a privileged location.

The Fuente de la Farfada Route is a simple, linear hike, ideal for families, that connects the village of Cordiñanes de Valdeón with the emblematic Fuente de la Farfada, passing through some of the most spectacular landscapes in the Picos de Europa National Park.

The itinerary begins at the Tombo Viewpoint, located just a few meters from Cordiñanes de Valdeón on the road to Caín. From this point, the trail enters a dense beech forest, providing shade and coolness for much of the route. As you continue, the landscape gradually transforms into an oak forest, allowing you to enjoy the characteristic woodland diversity of the Valdeón valley.

The well-marked path, with little elevation gain, traverses the hillside and offers panoramic views of both the valley and the impressive peaks of the western massif of the Picos de Europa. In some sections, the original stone paving is still preserved, a testament to the historical importance of this route as a link between the plateau and Asturias.

The route passes through Monte Corona, a mixed forest where hazels, oaks, beeches, and holly trees alternate, creating an ideal environment for hiking and nature observation. After crossing a picturesque wooden bridge and enjoying the tranquility of the forest, you finally reach the Fuente de la Farfada, a perfect spot to rest and take in the views towards the main peaks of the central massif, such as Torre de la Palanca and Torre del Llambrión.

This route is especially recommended in spring and autumn, when the forests are at their most splendid.
