N5. PEÑA GABANCEDA CIRCULAR ROUTE FROM CAMPING EL CARES

Begin an unforgettable adventure at Camping El Cares. Taking the track that leads to Montó, immerse yourself in a dreamlike mountain landscape. Peña Gabanceda will be your first landmark, followed by the majestic Peña de la Silla. After enjoying panoramic views, descend along a trail that will take you back to your starting point, completing a circular route that allows you to connect with the nature of the Picos de Europa.

Route Description

The first stage of this route is the Camping el Cares–Majada de Montó route. From the Montó cabin, leaving Peña de Gulugas on your left, you will reach the top of the meadow, where you will find a depression in the terrain ahead. You will need to skirt around it, looking for a path that winds to the right, heading south-southeast, without losing much elevation.

You will walk along unmarked trails, passing through Collada de Tomaderas, between Peña de la Silla and Gabanceda.

From the top of the collada, you will find a path to the right (south-southeast), which in less than a kilometer and with almost no loss of elevation, will take you over the Vega de Pregó to the Gabanceda trail, which follows the ridge with a cliff to the left and will lead you to the Puerto de Pandetrave. Along the ridge, you will come across some strategically placed cairns.

Descend from the Puerto towards Santa Marina de Valdeón, taking the first rural path you find on the left (this section coincides with the return of the Camping–Vega de Pregó route).
