Description of the hike

The itinerary begins at Camping El Cares, where you should descend the path leading from the campsite until you find the official National Park signposts marked as PR PN-14.

From the start, the route passes through a beech forest, providing a tranquil and shaded environment ideal for hiking. The trail is marked with discreet waymarkers that make navigation easier and ensure safety along the way. As you progress, the path ascends gently, allowing for a comfortable walk while offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

Along the route, you reach a junction where the trail splits; at this point, the main route continues ascending, leaving the option to descend to Santa Marina de Valdeón for another time.

Further on, you cross a wooden bridge that leads to La Tienda, a small valley with open meadows from which you can enjoy outstanding views of the natural landscape. The views from this spot are truly spectacular.

Throughout the hike, you will often find sunny clearings and small streams, adding variety to the surroundings and providing places to rest. The route is suitable for those who enjoy nature photography, as there are multiple points of visual interest along the way, as well as opportunities to spot some small animals and typical local flora.

The first shelter you will encounter is called Majada de Bres; here, you should continue along the track until you reach Majada de Montó, which marks the end of the main ascent. This spot serves as a natural viewpoint, allowing you to see Peña Gulugas and Peña Gabanceda, as well as the surrounding valley. In addition, you may spot the chapel of the Virgen de los Pastores, located on the mountainside, a point of cultural and traditional interest in the area.

For the return, you can retrace the same path, enjoying a new perspective of the forest, or take the marked variant leading towards Prada or Posada de Valdeón, passing by the Majadas del Collado and the Loma del Jito. This alternative allows you to explore other sectors of the park and diversify your hiking experience.
